Bent Landscapes

I recently discovered that the crapy CMOS sensor on my Motorola cellphone pans as takes an image which allows for some pretty cool looking distortion. I'm totally pumped about this, though apparently no one I've talked about it with could care less. I would like to know what could be accomplished with the same crappy sensor and a better lens.
